LANDIS RABISH
MASTER DISTILLER
GRAND TRAVERSE DISTILLERY
GRAND TRAVERSE, MI
The top-tier vodka from Grand Traverse Distillery provides the rye component for American Liquor Co. Founder Kent Rabish was a pioneer in jumpstarting Michigan’s craft spirit industry in 2005 and his son Landis worked his way up the ranks to become the Master Distiller. Their deep Midwestern roots go back to pre-Prohibition where distilling took place on the family farm. Being Polish, Landis recalls the family drinking rye spirits, particularly vodka. The rye in their vodka today is about as local as it gets. It’s delivered weekly from Send Brothers Farm just down the road and milled on-site at the distillery.
The concept of Midwest craft distillers working together is what attracted Landis to the American Liquor initiative noting that “it’s never been done before.” He sees it as a great showcase of the region and craftsmen.
